The Housing Challenge:

Strategy Surveys

As has been well documented, the TBM suffers from a severe lack of rental housing. This problem makes it difficult for younger residents to be able to afford to live in our Town, and challenges our business owners to hire sufficient numbers of employees to run their operations. To attempt to help find solutions to our skewed housing mix, we formed the BMRA Housing Strategy Working Group (HSWG). The HSWG has been working with Town Staff and Council over the past year on this issue.

A proposal has been received by the Town for a workforce housing development in the Blue Mountain Resort area. It would be situated on Grey Road 19. While this project is in its early stages and many questions remain to be answered, the BMRA Housing Strategy Working Group has agreed to assist the proponent in conducting a public survey. Their intent is to solicit input to their proposal, and better understand local perspectives on workforce housing.

More information about the project:

For more information on the workforce housing proposal, you can use this link to access the project website:

The project proponents will be holding an information and resident engagement session from 5:30 - 7:00 on Tuesday March 3 at the Thornbury Library.

To take the survey:

There are three versions of the survey; one for members of the public, one for local business owners, and one for workers / potential tenants of the rental units. This is the link to access the surveys

Please note, the red ribbon at the top of each page allows participants to easily navigate between and select any of the three surveys.

We encourage our members to respond to the survey. If we are to address our housing problem, it will require the engagement of our whole community. And if workforce housing is to become a reality, the developments will need to meet the expectations and requirements of our residents.
