First, let us offer you our congratulations on having run successful campaigns, and being elected by the voters in the Town of Blue Mountains. This election cycle was
unprecedented in the level of engagement during the campaign, and in the sheer volume of opportunities to state your positions on key priorities. We believe that the strong slate of candidates who declared was a key contributor to the high level of interest shown in the races.
And the candidates laid out well reasoned, comprehensive platforms for voter review and consideration through the series of public events – Meet the Candidate sessions at the LE Shore Library, Candidate Socials at the Marsh Street Centre, as well as a few candidate debates.
Now that you have been elected, you have the opportunity to deliver on your campaign promises, meeting the needs and expectations of your constituents. That is a level of accountability, and trust, that the citizens of the Town of the Blue Mountains hold for their new Council.
The BMRA is very pleased that each of you identified what you see as the town’s top
priorities, and pretty uniformly believe our town’s financial position, infrastructure
challenges and lack of affordable housing top the list. We are anxious to see this
Council take the actions required to address these issues, as well as the broader
concerns regarding the sustainability of our growth, in your upcoming term.
Topics like implementing some of the KPMG study recommendations on operational efficiencies, improving our financial relationship with Grey County and enhancing transparency are all topics that we will be tracking closely.
It’s very early in your new term, however, expectations are justifiably high. We look forward to continuing to constructively engage with our Council and senior Staff as you work to effectively and professionally provide much needed leadership for our Town.
