Affordable Housing:

Pushing for action

BMRA’s Housing Strategy Working Group, which is composed of a variety of community stakeholders including developers, the Chamber of Commerce, and Southern Georgian Bay Institute, has been working to spur action on our Town's Affordable Housing Strategy.

In the Feb 4th Staff report to Council, The BMRA’s contribution is referenced multiple times, and many of the action items noted are “aligned to BRMA’s recommendations”.

There remains one critical recommendation that the Town has not yet endorsed for 2025 - the hiring of a Growth Management Specialist who could help improve the integration of our Town's development activities, and help make meaningful progress in addressing our skewed housing mix. The BMRA will continue to press this point, to motivate the Town to add this role at some point in 2025.

We will continue to advocate with the Town for the development of an effective housing strategy that will enable our community to grow sustainably.
