Municipal Restructing is coming onto the agenda

As reported in Collingwood Today (click the button below), at a meeting of Grey County Council on March 28th, the topic of municipal restructuring was raised by the Mayor of Owen Sound in the context of the County's strategic plan exercise. 

Our members are aware that the BMRA has long been voicing concerns about the inefficiency of our current County structure - and the difficulties it poses in developing shared service models that provide cost savings to TBM ratepayers.

That is why we believe it could be meaningful that the Mayor of another Grey municipality has suggested restructuring, given the potential benefits that could offer to TBM. 

What’s Next?

We have reached out to Mayor Matrosovs and Deputy Mayor Bordignon to follow up on this matter, and to discuss how they, as our County Council representatives, are intending to proceed.

To date, it is not clear to us what their strategy is as it relates to protecting our interests, and finances, at the County level.

The BMRA supports any effort that will result in a more equitable use of our overall tax contribution. We have significant concerns that the capital funding required to support our growth is being redirected to other Grey spending priorities. We are continuing to ask for transparency from Grey County on how our tax dollars are spent.
